Inside the Mind of Cedric McMillan
Cedric McMillan is one of the most genetically gifted bodybuilders competing today. He has been hailed for bringing classic lines and aesthetic proportions back to the sport, delivering a mesmerizing combination of mass and shape with artful posing. While Cedric has been likened to Arnold Schwarzenegger for his structure and been applauded by many for having the attributes to win the Mr. Olympia title, he’s also one of the industry’s most misunderstood personalities. This month Cedric is on the cover of Muscular Development, as we get a closer look at him in a rare interview that is quite a revelation.
“Inside the Mind of McMillan:The Enigmatic Cedric Truly Is One of a Kind” paints a compelling picture of this Redcon1 athlete. Cedric shares details about his bodybuilding career, his life and the legacy he wants to leave behind. Once you know what Cedric is thinking, you will likely never look at him the same way again.
Genuinely impressive quads that make onlookers blurt out “holy shit!” also have a certain shape to them that we refer to as “outer sweep.” When viewed from the front, the quads bow out to the sides. Each and every one of you can develop a better sweep to your outer quads by emphasizing the vastus lateralis in your leg training. The more you develop this part of the quads, the better illusion of a sick sweep you will create. Learn everything you need to know about improving your quad sweep from MD’s Ron Harris, who is no slouch in that department, in “Sweep Up the Competition! How to Blow Out Your Outer Quad Sweep.”
Arms aren’t everything— the goal should be a well-balanced and proportional physique— but great biceps and triceps development is a must for bodybuilding success. Derek Lunsford’s arms are well above average, stretching the tape out to 21 inches in the off-season. Those arms are one reason Derek has been runner-up for two years at the 212 Olympia contest, to Flex Lewis in 2018 and then to Kamal Elgargni 2019. Learn what Derek does to build his massive arms and five things he learned about arm training in “Armed Assault! Derek Lunsford Blasts Bi’s and Tri’s.”
Patrick Moore was the surprise hit of the 2019 Mr. Olympia. Nobody expected him to be not only one of the best-conditioned men onstage, but also one of the best posers. Patrick brought a unique package with an astounding X-frame, and posed with charisma and confidence. And his 23-inch arms had the audience gasping. Patrick has had two incredible mentors, Lee Labrada and seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath, on his side as he has moved up the ranks. Learn more about him in “Patrick ‘The Future’ Moore: Are We Witnessing the Rise of a Superstar?”
Now is the time to transition from the off-season building stage to full cutting mode, but the change cannot happen like flipping a switch. Both mentally and physically, our bodies don’t respond well to sudden, drastic change. It’s better to gradually adjust all the variables so you have time to acclimate. You’ll be in an excellent position to launch your successful shredding regimen when you follow the plan in “Spring Training: How to Transition From Bulking to Shredding in 8 Weeks.”
