Can Bonac Win Mr. Olympia?
As in every sport where there is a champion, there are always going to be those hungry young challengers eager to take that throne away from the King of the Hill – or in the case of bodybuilding, the King of Mount Olympus. Bodybuilding’s reigning king is 2019 Mr. Olympia Brandon Curry, and one man who could challenge Brandon for the crown this year is two-time Arnold Classic champion William Bonac, who is on the cover of this month’s MD.
2020 is shaping up to be a very good year for William Bonac. He really showed the bodybuilding world what he’s made of at this year’s Arnold, which had one of the best and toughest lineups in years. William the Conqueror emerged victorious in the fierce battle in Columbus, beating 2008 Mr. Olympia and five-time Arnold Classic Champion Dexter Jackson, 300-pound behemoth Big Ramy and 2017 Arnold Classic winner Cedric McMillan.
Now there is only one title left for William Bonac to really rise up to and win, and that is the Mr. Olympia. Can William improve enough to take out the current champ in Las Vegas? Giles Thomas has been following William’s career for 10 years and gives MD readers the inside story in “Could William Bonac Win the 2020 Mr. Olympia?”
The weather is heating up, and you want to look your best since more of your physique will be on display. For many, that means shedding the body fat you put on over the fall and winter months. This can be a confusing process, and MD has your back. Ron Harris gives you the lowdown to help you transform that soft winter body into a summer hardbody in “The 18 Do’s and Don’ts of Getting Ripped.”
Alex Cambronero won four shows as a 212 pro before switching to the Classic Physique division. While switching divisions always carries some degree of risk, Alex was encouraged by some of bodybuilding’s most respected authorities. “Shawn Ray and Dan Solomon both talked about how I was hitting Classic poses, and what a great fit I would be in that division. That’s when it began to sound like a good idea,” Alex tells MD. It was a very good idea, as this Redcon1athlete won the Arnold Classic on his first attempt. Read Alex’s story in “Costa Rican Classic! Former 212 Champ Alex Cambronero Is Killing It In Classic Physique.”
2020 marked the return of Big Ramy, competing for the first time in 18 months at the Arnold Classic. When he stepped on stage at the Battelle Grand Ballroom at 300 pounds of crushing muscle mass, jaws dropped. Big Ramy is working with a new coach whose former clients include eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, and he’s back on the contest circuit and fighting for the most prestigious titles in pro bodybuilding. Get an update on one of the most popular bodybuilders on the planet and Schiek Sports athlete in “The Return of Big Ramy! Did He Deliver?”
Steve Kuclo established himself as a true contender by placing sixth at the 2019 Mr. Olympia and fourth in one of the toughest Arnold Classic lineups in well over a decade. His delts certainly played a role in that. Find out what Steve does to train shoulders and the exercises this Team ALLMAX athlete does in “Kingsnake Shoulder Blast! How Steve Kuclo Trains Delts.”
Many of us make excuses for not exercising – lack of time, aches and pains, injuries. Can you walk? Can you move from the waist down? If the answer to both questions is no, could you imagine running your own auto body shop as well as training every day in the gym and winning almost 20 pro titles so far, including two Mr. Olympias and five Arnold Classics? Harold Kelley’s advice is, “Don’t worry about what you can’t do. Worry about what you can do, and get it done.” Meet a man and Redcon1 athlete who has defied the odds in “True Courage:Harold Kelley Is the Greatest Pro Wheelchair Bodybuilder Alive.”
